connected to the network and display them. In order to sim-

plify the selection of the folder you’d like to use with the DVC

device, we advise you to start the folder names on the PC with

a uniform term (a preﬁx). In our example, all folders start with

EP_. You can then set up a public folder search ﬁlter to further

limit the search for these folders. When you search for the

starting combination ‘EP_’, you will only get these folders. You

should now select the folder containing the data you need.

Conﬁrm with the OK button to list all found video and audio

folders in the menu.

The contents of subfolders of a folder will also be listed. The

folder structure itself is not shown, however. Pictures are also

not shown directly in this list. Switch to the photo archive to

access the images.

You can play the ﬁles either immediately by clicking on the

Play button , or switch to the import menu by clicking the

Record button on the DVC remote control to save the ﬁles you

need on your Casablanca system. You can import both video

and audio data at the same time. The Casablanca will copy the

ﬁles to the correct archives.

The length of sound recordings cannot be communicated in

the Play menu and is therefore unknown. However, as soon

as you play the ﬁle, the length will be displayed. The playback

quality of your video ﬁles in your network depends very much

on the data rate of the ﬁle, the resolution and the complex-

ity of the format used. It is possible that not all video ﬁles can

be played jerk free on your Casablanca device. In that case,

import the ﬁlm to the movie archive of your Casablanca to play

it directly from the hard-drive.

Pictures can be imported from the photo archive. Switch to the

photo archive and start the network option there.

In the Import menu, you can select the images to be copied

to your Photo archive. You can improve the organization for

working via the network by organizing audio, video and images

on your PC in separate folders.

7.3 Settings

In the main menu of the Media Manager, press the Settings

button to enter this menu. Here, you will ﬁnd all kinds of differ-

ent menus, information and various settings.

If you use the browser without a remote control, please use a

4-button trackball. Its buttons have special functions. Left: left

click, performs the chosen action. Right: return button, close

the help window or other windows or goes back one Internet

site. Small button left: opens a help menu. Small button right:

menu button, closes the Internet browser and returns to the

selection menu..

If you have to enter a URL without a keyboard, you can do

this with the remote control or the trackball. To do this, click

on the small left button, and then click in the help menu on

the navigation symbol ‘Go to URL’ and then on the text ﬁeld.

This will open an on-screen keyboard. This will allow you to

enter an address without a keyboard. If you would like to use

a speciﬁc Internet site as your starting site, you should call up

the browser’s options. To do this, you should click the Options

button on the remote control, with the trackball the small left

button and on Options in the help menu. This will allow you to

use Option (6) to enter a new start site for the browser.

7.2.6 Network

If the device is connected to a PC via the Ethernet interface

and a router or a DHCP server, it is possible to have direct

access to public folders on the PC (SMB protocol) and read or

play data from there.

If you have integrated a UPnP server in your home network,

you will be able to access it from this menu. This way, you will

be able to transfer videos, music and pictures to your device

and use there. It is also possible to play the content directly

via the Universal Player, without storing the data on the DVC

device.

To allow for such a connection, you have to make some

preparations. You have to make the folders you need on your

PC public, so that your device can access them. Please read

the documentation that came with your computer or operat-

ing system to ﬁnd out how to make folders public. Typically,

a right mouse click on a folder will take you to a menu which

will allow to release the network under the option ‘Release and

security’. When you start the network menu, your Casablanca

device will searching for any public folders on all PCs that are
